About Charoite

Charoite (CHAR-oh-ite) is a lovely lavender and white variegated rock which is relatively new in the gemstone world. It is said that it was discovered during the 1940’s in the Chara River area of Russia, but it did not truly gain its own identity until 1978 when it was recognized as an independent mineral. To date, it is only found in the Sakha Republic, Yakutia, Siberia and the supply seems to be dwindling.
